The Screenwriters Colony is thrilled to announce this year’s participants for its 12th annual residency-mentorship retreat. LILY BALDWIN, SARAH ADINA SMITH and ANDREAS TROLF have been selected to join the Nantucket Film Festival’s Tony Cox Screenplay Competition winner CLARK CARROLL for the month-long intensive program on Nantucket island.
LILY BALDWIN will be working on GLASS, a true-crime thriller about a schizophrenic stalker and a dancer in our privacy-gone world. Baldwin, who is based in New York City, Los Angeles and Berlin, had her short film SLEEPOVER LA screened at the 2014’s SXSW Film Festival and Berlinale EFM while her earlier short film SEA MEADOW was shown at film festivals, art fairs and museums. This year, she began a new short film series, THE PAPERBACK MOVIE PROJECT. GLASS, her first feature film, also was selected this year for the Independent Film Week’s Emerging Storytellers program.
CLARK CARROLL will be working on his as-yet-UNTITLED script about a suburban high school senior and drug addict, whose parents commit him to a dual diagnosis psychiatric hospital where he’s forced to confront himself and the world around him. Carroll won this year’s Showtime’s Tony Cox Screenplay Competition at the 2014 Nantucket Film Festival for his coming-of-age script EARLY PLUS INFINITY. Last year he was a finalist in the drama category at the Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition. Carroll also has co-authored several books on the Hawaiian Islands for Lonely Planet.
SARAH ADINA SMITH will be working on JONAH, which is about a fugitive mountain man who retreats deeper and deeper into his brain, and a fisherman who survives being lost at sea who meet in a spiritual wormhole where only one can survive. The Los Angeles-based filmmaker recently directed her first feature THE MIDNIGHT SWIM, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival. She previously co-wrote and produced the feature GOODBYE WORLD and made the award-winning short THE SIRENS. Her script THE COLONY, a Nicholl Fellowship semi-finalist, is scheduled to be shot in June, 2015.
ANDREAS TROLF will be working on SON OF NO RESPECT, a story of a 45-year-old burnout who believes his free ride with his father is over so he decides to live it up one more before killing himself. Trolf is the co-creator, writer, and co-executive producer of the Nickelodeon TV series SANJAY AND CRAIG. An author and music video director, he recently co-wrote and directed the short film THE OPPOSITE OF PEOPLE. Trolf, who is represented by Dan Shear at WME, is a member of both the Television Academy and the Animation Guild.
