We are thrilled to welcome our 2016 October Colonists to Nantucket this weekend! Emma Needell, Ajani Jackson, Haroula Rose and Zach Wigon will spend the month living and writing at Almanack Arts Colony, and Sameh Zoabi joins the group for one week.
Emma Needell will spend the month writing THE BIG HOAX. Set in a fictional South American country, an officer in the dictator’s secret police grapples with his own patriotism and morality as he investigates a case that becomes more personal and dangerous by the day.
It’s 1957, and Ajani Jackson’s MARGARET GREY has the perfect life. The prototype for any homemaker, she has a loving husband and is a rising star in her community. Margaret, however, is living a lie, and when she learns that she’s pregnant, her lies are thrust into the light, forcing her to fight to keep her secret: she is a black woman, passing for white.
In ONCE UPON A RIVER by Haroula Rose, 15 year old Margo Crane takes to the river to find her mother after her father is killed before her eyes. Margo’s odyssey on the Stark is filled with many wonders and dangers as she fights to find her way.
Zach Wigon will develop his new screenplay EVELYN. An LAPD detective falls in love with the girlfriend of a drug dealer while watching her on an illegal surveillance feed. When her life is put in danger, he is torn between his desire to save her and his loyalty to his commanding officer.
Sameh Zoabi is the winner of the 2016 Nantucket Film Festival Tony Cox Feature Screenplay Competition with his project TEL AVIV ON FIRE. Salam, an inexperienced young Palestinian man, becomes a writer on a popular soap opera after a chance meeting with an Israeli soldier. His creative career is on the rise – until the soldier and the show’s financial backers disagree about how the show should end, and Salam is caught in the middle.
